Instructions for making Lemonade.

There is no use crying over spoiled lemons. Life gives us fresh lemons every day. Our lemonade will never taste good if we try to salvage the rotten lemons of past. Throw them out. As long as there is breath in our lungs, there is a new supply of fresh lemons coming in daily from which to make our lemonade. The truth is, there is no sense in listing instructions for making lemonade out of life's lemons because we never know what kind, quantity, color, or shape of lemons we will be dealt. The only guarantee is that tomorrow's lemons will be fresher than today, as lemons usually are. Welcome to Emily's Lemonade Stand. Open for business since 1991.

New Place to Rest My Lemons.

I have become a big girl now. I am all moved in to my first apartment. I even woke up at 8:30 am today (yes, that is am) like a responsible human being and contributor to society and drank two cups of coffee. I am awful proud of myself. I will go out today and buy some things with a gift card my future mother in law gave me (feels so good to say that). I have decided I need an apron. I recently bought some old Southern Living cookbooks and then my roommate, Caitlin, drew to my attention that I lack an apron. Caitlin and I are on a mission to become domesticated in the next two years we will spend in this apartment. I took a shower for the first time today (in the apartment not first shower ever). It was so very nice. I didn't have to wear flip flops and I got out feeling extra clean because it wasn't a bathroom used by everyone in the world. I have served my time in the dorm and you cannot make me go back! It feels good to be back in Bowling Green this time. I finally have a "home". I think this will make everything a whole lot more enjoyable. I am excited to go get some dinner tonight with some Bowling Green friends!

This year I will be working in the Meteorology Lab on campus. This is my first job on campus and first time I will be working and doing school at the same time. I am very excited to work in the lab and think it will be very beneficial to my career in Meteorology. I look forward to giving back by doing my time in the lab after receiving guidance from the lab workers before me my freshman and sophomore years. Our program here is full of such great people who want to help and encourage each other in a tough program that requires encouragement often! We have all had our breakdowns but we always are there to be strong for someone when they have their turn to breakdown. This summer I did some volunteering at the National Weather Service in Nashville. I am so appreciative for that opportunity. I enjoyed the tasks given to me to do and the challenging atmosphere. By far my favorite thing was getting a chance to let go of the weather balloon one day. I cannot wait to one day pursue a career at the National Weather Service.

Something I have been thinking about lately ,in lue of Girls Day a week or so ago at my church, is when things don't go my way. I taught at Girls Day and this was one of the lessons that my youth minister's wife taught in the same class. My thinking on this all started that day when I felt like my lesson didn't go so well. We had three people teaching in on class and I had volunteered to go last. The class ran a little rough and we were low on time. The first time, my lesson got cut in half and I had to rush through it because I only had two minutes. My head was full of selfish thoughts about how I didn't get a chance to make my lesson great and how everyone was going to think my lesson was awful because I had to rush through it. I tend to be a negative person sometimes and get a chip on my shoulder feeling like I am the one that always get the short end of the stick in life, which of course is not true. My family and I have a joke going about how we have a great big 'kick me' sign on our backs because people are always messing us over. The more I thought about my Girls Day situation the more I realized how my head and heart were in the wrong place. I was there to let God speak through me, not speak myself. I think a lot of times when things don't go our way it's because we are doing it for our own glory and haven't turned it over to God. Nothing can be successful if it is not done to bring glory to God. It has gone so much further in my mind from Girls Day to my job at Old Navy to my Calculus class and on. All the things in my life that aren't going how I want them to go are things that I haven't been seeking glory for God in. I am going to try to change this in my life.
